Huw is Principal Oboe of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) and is on staff at the University of Queensland
Huw Jones has appeared as an Oboist with every major symphony orchestra in Australia and New Zealand, as well as several major orchestras in the UK. After graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium with First-Class Honours, he has appeared as Guest Principal Oboe with the Opera Australia Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, Symphony Orchestra of India, the Australia Ensemble, the Australia Chamber Orchestra, and in 2018 the Australian World Orchestra.
In 2009 Huw undertook trials as Second Oboe with both the Philharmonia Orchestra London, and the Irish Chamber Orchestra. In 2010 Huw moved back to Sydney, where he undertook a busy freelance and teaching career, as well as being the Director of Music at St Philip’s Anglican Church, York Street. In 2013, Huw was appointed as Section Principal Oboe of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
