About Me

Lloyd Hudson took up the position of Second Flute/Principal Piccolo in the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in 2002. He is a graduate of the Canberra School of Music at the Australian National University where he learnt with Vernon Hill and Virginia Taylor, graduating with a Bachelor of Music in 1997.

As a student, he was Principal Flute in the Australian Youth Orchestra, including the AYO’s tour of China. He has played guest Principal Flute with Orchestra Victoria and the Auckland Symphony Orchestra, and has been guest Principal Piccolo with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he has performed as soloist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Virtuosi Tasmania.

He is a founding member of the new contemporary ensemble Opus House. He was the recipient of the 2012 Mr and Mrs Gerald Frank New Churchill Fellowship, awarded for the achievement of performance excellence in classical music or voice. The Fellowship enabled him to undertake a six-week tour of Asia, Europe and North America where he studied with some of the world’s leading piccolo performers and teachers.

He lectures in flute performance at the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Tasmania and gives masterclasses to students in Tasmania and interstate.
