About Me

Principal Oboe of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Celia Craig also teaches oboe at Elder Conservatorium of Music. During her career she has held Principal positions with BBC Symphony Orchestra, London, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Cardiff and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

She has been a regular Guest Principal player with City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Scottish National, London Chamber Players, London Symphony, London Philharmonic, Sydney, New Zealand and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, working with conductors of the calibre of Bernstein, Ashkenazy, Haitink, Tortelier, Gergiev, Temirkanov, Berio, Adams, touring to five continents.

Celia was appointed an Honorary Associate by the Royal Academy of Music in 1997, following two Exhibition Awards, Harold Craxton Prize for Chamber Music and other accolades. Celia has featured as Soloist in London, at the Proms, the Barbican Centre, with the Adelaide Symphony, in New Zealand with Christchurch Symphony, with whom she gave the Australasian Premiere of Messiaen’s last work Concert a Quatre.

She served as President of Australasian Double Reed Society 2007-13 and coaches oboe for the Australian Youth Orchestra as well as acting on advisory committees for Recitals Australia, State Opera of South Australia and the Australian Music Examinations Board.
